Building the components

Building the components

The first step of the project is to build the components for the wine rack. You first have to adjust the width of the 1×8 slats to 7″. Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth. Mark the cut lines on the slats and get the job done with a saw. Remove the excess with a chisel. Clean the recess with sandpaper.

Next, you need to assemble the frame of the wine rack. Make sure the corners are square and the edges perfectly aligned.

Fit the slats to the sides of the wine rack. Align the edges until they are flush and use glue and 1 1/4″ brad nails to lock the components together.

In order to enhance the look of the rack, you need to place a piece of wood to the bottom. Cut both ends at 45 degrees and lock it into place with 1 1/4″ brad nails and glue.

One of the last steps of the project is to fit the top of the wine rack. Cut one end at 45 degrees. Fit the slats to the structure and lock them into place with glue and brad nails.

Fit the bottles to the rack and you are almost done with the project.

Fill the holes with wood putty and let them dry out for a few hours. Smooth the surface with 100-220 grit sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth.

Top Tip: Apply a few coats of paint or stain to the components, to enhance the look of the project.
