Building a garden bench seat
The first step of the project is to build the legs for the bench. Cut both ends of the 2×4 slats at 75 degrees. Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper.
Use 1×3 slats for the braces. Cut both ends of the braces at 75 degrees. Lay the legs on a level surface and then attach the braces. Align the components at both ends. Drill pilot holes through the
Fit the sides of the bench to the 2×12 seat. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the seat.
Use 2×4 lumber for the stretcher. Drill pilot holes through the bottom braces and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the stretcher. Make sure the corners are square for a professional result.
Fill the holes with wood putty and let them dry out for a few hours. Smooth the surface with 100-220 grit sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth.
Top Tip: Apply a few coats of paint or stain to the components, to enhance the look of the project.
