How to build a corner outdoor sectional sofa

Building the legs

Build the legs for the outdoor sectional out of 1×4 lumber. Mark the cut lines on the components and get the job done with a circular saw. Smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth.

Building the seat frame

Next, you need to build the seat frame out of 1×4 slats. Cut the components at the right dimensions and drill pocket holes at both ends of the components. Align everything with attention and secure them together using 1 1/4″ screws. Make sure the corners are right-angled and add glue to the joints.

Fit the rest of the supports to the seat, as described in the diagram. Take accurate measurements for a professional result.

Fitting the backrest slats

Build the backrests out of 1×4 lumber and drill pocket holes at both ends. Use 1 1/4″ screws to the secure the components to the back legs. Leave no gaps between the components.

Installing the seat slats

Building the seat of the corner sectional sofa is a straight-forward process, but you need to pay attention to several aspects. Start the process by attaching the 1×4 slats to the seat frame, as described in the diagram. Use 1 1/4″ brad nails or screws to lock the slats to the frame.

Fitting the seat slats

Cut the rest of the components at the appropriate dimensions and drill pocket holes. Lock the components together with 1 1/4″ screws and add glue to enhance their bond.

Attaching the top slats

One of the last steps of the outdoor project is to attach the 1×2 slats to the top of the corner sectional module. Cut one end of the components at 45 degrees and secure them to the top of the posts using 1 1/4″ screws.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
