This step by step diy woodworking project is about firehouse. If you want to surprise you kids with a nice homemade gift, we recommend you to consider building a beautiful firehouse station. There are many designs you could choose from, so we really suggest you to take a look over the rest of the play projects. There are many others projects that you could build for your kids.

Make sure you invest in high quality materials, such as pressure-treated lumber, cedar, pine or redwood. Take accurate measurements and use a professional saw to get the job done. Always align the components at both ends before drilling the pilot holes and inserting the galvanized screws, in order to prevent the wood from splitting. Use waterproof glue to reinforce the joints. Building a firehouse playset 

Building the firehouse

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the firehouse playset. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to build the posts out of 2×2 lumber and the floors out of 3/4″ plywood.

Take accurate measurements and make 1 1/2″x1 1/2″ notches to the corners of the plywood pieces. Drill pocket holes along the sides notches and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the posts.

Building the trims

Building the top trims is a great idea, if you want to enhance the look of the firehouse and add value to your project. Mark the cut lines on the 1×4 slats and use a jigsaw to cut the curves lines. Make sure the blade goes over the cut line.

Use fine-grit sandpaper to smooth the cut edges, before attaching them into place. Make sure you take accurate measurements before cutting them to the right size and shape.

Fitting the trims

Attaching the trims to the firehouse is a straight-forward process, but you need to pay attention to several things. Cut the bottom trims at the right size and lock them to the structure using 1 1/4″ finishing nails.

Fitting the side wall

Although this step is not compulsory, we strongly suggest you to attach a side panel to the wooden firehouse. Cut the plywood at the right size and smooth the edges with sandpaper. Remove the residues and cut out windows, if you want to get a professional appearance.

Top Tip: Fit the plywood panel and secure it into place using finishing nails. Add glue to the joints and clean the excess using a damp cloth. Smooth the surface with fine-grit sandpaper.

Attaching the back wall

In order to enhance the look of the firehouse, we recommend you attach the 3/4″ plywood back to structure. Align the plywood piece with great care and lock it to the studs using 3/4″ plywood. Make sure the edges are flush before inserting the screws.

Fitting the roof trims

One of the last step of the woodworking project is to attach the 1×1 trims to the top of the firehouse playset. In order to get a professional result, we recommend you to cut both ends of the trims at 45 degrees.

Top Tip: Drill pilot holes and secure the trims to the structure using 1 1/4″ finishing nails. Add glue to the joint and remove the excess with a damp cloth. Leave no gaps between the components.

Firehouse plans

After assembling the firehouse playset we recommend you to check if the components are locked together properly. Insert the galvanized screws properly, making sure they are at the same level with the wooden surface.

Top Tip: Don’t forget to take a cover the components with paint, if you want to enhance the look of the firehouse and to make it stand out. Use glue to lock the components into place.
