Building a play table

Building the legs

Building the legs

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the legs for the play table. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend  you to use 2×2 lumber for the legs. Cut both ends of the legs at 80 degrees, by using a good circular saw.

Fitting the supports

Fitting the supports

The next step of the indoor woodworking project is to fit the supports to the sides of the table. As you can see in the diagram, you need to build the top support out of 2×2 lumber and the lower support out of 1×3 lumber.

Cut both ends of the supports at 10 degrees. Drill pocket holes at the top of the legs and at both ends of the lower supports. Insert 1 1/4″ screws into the legs and add glue to the joints. Leave no gaps between the components.

Building the tabletop

Building the tabletop

Build the tabletop out of 3/4″ plywood. Mark the cut lines on the plywood sheet and get the job done using a circular saw. Make sure the blade goes over the guide lines. Smooth the cut edges using fine-grit sandpaper.

Making the cuts in the tabletop

Make sure you make the notches as in the diagram, otherwise they won’t fit around the legs. Drill pocket holes through the supports and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the tabletop. Add glue to the joints and make sure there are no gaps between the components.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look of the project and to protect the table from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Place the play table in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
