• B – 5 pieces of 2×8 lumber – 16 1/2″ long SHELVES

• 3 pieces of 2×6 lumber – 8 ft
• 1 piece of 2×8 lumber – 8 ft
• 2 1/2″ screws
• 1 1/4″ screws
• wood putty, wood stain

Building wooden shelves

Building the back support

First, build the back panel of the shelves. In order to get a professional and a durable result, we recommend you to build the components out of 2×6 slats. Cut the components at the right size and smooth the edges with fine-grit sandpaper.

Drill pocket holes along the slats and secure them together using 2 1/2″ screws. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess using a damp cloth. Leave no gaps between the components.

Fitting the shelves

Continue the project by fitting the 2×8 shelves to the back support. Cut the shelves at the right size and drill pocket holes along the back edge. Align the edges with great care and secure them to the back support using 2 1/2″ screws. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess.

Place the shelves equally-spaced and leave no gaps between the components. Adjust the size between the shelves according to your needs.

How to build wall shelves

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look and to protect the wooden shelves from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Drill pilot holes through the back supports and insert 4 1/2″ screws into the studs.
