DIY Project – 14×14 Gable Pavilion
Â
From Rob,
Built the pavilion by myself over about 2 months when I had the time. Total cost was probably around $1200. The metal roof was about $450 (included in total price). I used 8″ timber-lok lag screws for all of the 6×6 connection points including the braces (screwed in at an angle). I had to use my cordless impact wrench to drive them all the way in. I don’t think the one inch notch in the cross beam for the gable support is necessary but if you do, ensure you cut it straight and perfect or it throws everything off when you start to build the roof (i.e. the precut birds mouths will not fit right). I haven’t added it yet but plan on adding a couple braces to the front and back for more detail and a strong-tie gable plate for a 6/12 pitch. I would think this would be a good investment if you do not cut the notch for the gable support.
