This step by step diy woodworking project is about 2×4 potting bench plans. I have designed this super simple potting bench so you can take care of your plants in your backyard. This potting bench has a simple design and it is made entirely from 2×4 boards and 2 1/2″ screws. If you want a potting bench with sink, you should take a look over these plans. See my other woodworking plans HERE.
There are many plans and designs to choose from, so make sure you take a close look over the rest of the garden bridge plans featured on our website. Plan everything with attention and adjust the size and the shape of the bridge to suit your needs. Plumb the legs and make sure the corners are right-angled before inserting the galvanized screws into place. Drill pilot or pocket holes to prevent the wood from splitting. Potting Bench – Free DIY Plans
The first step of the project is to build the frames for the potting bench. Cut the components from 2×4 lumber, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes through the 48″ supports and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges with attention.
The next step is to attach the 2×4 legs to the two frames. Align the edges, make sure the corners are right-angled, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly.
Next, fit the 2×4 slats to the lower frame. Align the edges at both ends, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws. Place 3/4″ plywood between the slats to create even gaps.
Fit the 2×4 slats to the top frame, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure the slats to the frame.
Next, you need to build the top shelf. Cut the supports at 8 1/4″ and then clamp them to the top of the back legs. Use a spirit level to check the support is horizontal.
Fit the boards to build the top shelf, as shown in the plans. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly.
Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain to enhance the look of the bench and to protect the components from the elements.
This potting bench is the perfect addition to any garden, especially if you love plants.
You can customize the potting bench to suit your needs, by adding a few shelves. This is a quick one day project that you can build using just 2x4s.
