The first step of the woodworking project is about basket plans. If you want to learn how to build a simple but functional basket, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions described in the article. Choose the most appropriate design for your needs and adjust the size of the basket to your tastes. Don’t forget to take a look over the rest of the projects, if you want to see what you can build in your backyard.
There are a few aspects that you should take into account, if you want to build a basket in a professional manner. Select quality materials for the woodworking project, such as pine, redwood or cedar. Not only will the basket be weather-resistant, but it will also have a nice natural finish. Take accurate measurements and smooth the components with sandpaper, if you want to get a professional result. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building a basket
The first step of the project is to build the faces of the basket. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to make the components out of 1×6 lumber. Mark the cut lines with a pencil and cut out the notches with a circular saw.
Clean the recesses with a chisel and smooth the surface with a piece of fine sandpaper. If you want to enhance the look of the project, we recommend you to round the bottom edges with a jigsaw.
The next step if to attach the 1×1 components to both sides of the basket. Cut the components at the right size and lock them to the side faces with finishing nails and waterproof glue.
Continue the project by attaching the handle supports to both ends of the basket. As you can easily notice in the image, we recommend you to cut the top of the supports as in the image and to lock them to the basket with several finishing nails.
Add waterproof glue to the joints and plumb the supports using a spirit level. Center the supports to the faces of the basket before driving the screws in. Remove the excess glue with a damp cloth.
Cut a piece of 1/2″ round lumber and fit it between the sides of the basket. Drill pilot holes through the faces and insert finishing nails into the handle. Align the handle at both ends before locking it into place.
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip:Â In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Fit a piece of wire to the bottom and sides of the basket, if you want to get a professional result.

Do you even read these plans? No where is there a need for 4×4 lumber or a post hole digger or concrete mixer?
