This step by step diy project is about 4×16 3 cord firewood shed plans. This firewood shed is sturdy and it features an elegant design. You can dry out your firewood and keep it stacked together to gain space and add unique design to your backyard. See the rest of my firewood shed free plans HERE. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration. Premium Plans for this project available in the Shop.

When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

It’s that easy to build a woodshed!

How to build a 4×16 wood shed

Floor-frame---4x16-wood-shed

Floor-frame—4×16-wood-shed

The first step of the project is to build the floor frame. Cut the joists from 2×6 lumber, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components. Align the edges flush and make sure the corners are square. Place the joists every 16″ on center.

Fitting the skids

Select the location for the wood storage shed. Level the ground and remove the vegetation layer. Using 4×4 skids under the floor frame will help protect the components from the elements. Align the skids, drill pilot holes through the floor frame and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock them together tightly.

Fit the 2×4 boards to the floor frame. Set 1″ spacers between the boards to create even gaps. Drill pilot holes through the boards and insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure them into place tightly.

Use 2×6 lumber for the front posts, and 2×4 lumber for the side posts. Cut the components at the right dimensions, as shown in the diagram. Add glue to the joints and align the edges flush. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws, every 10″ to create the corner posts.

Fit the 2×6 support beams to the front and back of the firewood storage shed. Center the beams into place to create even overhangs on both sides (10 1/2″). Drill pilot holes and insert 3″ lag screws to lock the beams to the side posts. For the middle post, use a T strong tie and 1 1/2″ structural screws.

Use 1×6 boards for the side wall panels. Cut the slats at 48″ and then attach them to the vertical posts with 1 5/8″ screws, after drilling pilot holes. Start from the floor up to the top. Fit 3″ spacers at both ends of the slats, to create even gaps.

Attach the 1×6 boards to the back of the shed, as well, using the same techniques described above.
