This step by step diy project is about 8×8 playhouse trims plans. This is PART 3 of the large playhouse project, where I show you how to build the door and how to fit the decorative trims. This playhouse is a straight forward project, with my detailed plans. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

It’s that simple to build a large playhouse!

Building a kids playhouse
The first step of the project is to attach the 1×3 trims to the sides of the playhouse. Cut the trims at the right dimensions and then secure them into place with 2″ nails. Align the edges with attention and leave no gaps between them.
Fit the 1×3 trims around the door opening. Align the edges with attention and secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.
The next step is to build the door frame with 1×3 trims and T1-11 siding or 1/2″ plywood. Align the trims to the door panel and then use glue and 1 1/4″ screws to lock them together tightly.
Fit the door to the opening and secure it into place with hinges. Install a latch to keep the door locked.
Fit the 1×3 trims to the front of the playhouse. Align the edges with attention and secure them into place with 2″ nails.
Use 2×4 lumber to build the rails and 2×2 for the balusters. Drill pilot holes through the rails and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the balusters. Place the balusters equally spaced.
Fit the railings between the posts and drill pocket holes at both ends of the rails. Insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure the railings to the posts, as level as possible.
I have lots of other shed projects on the site so I recommend you to browse through all alternatives before starting the building project. See all my shed projects HERE. Moreover, check out PART 2 of the playhouse project, so you learn how to build the roof and PART 1, so you can learn how to build the frame for the playhouse.
