This woodworking project is about wood fence designs. If you want to build a privacy fence for your property, you should know there are a few designs that you could choose from. Therefore, you could build basic and rustic X-crossed panels or exquisite ones that combine the conveniency of full panels with the elegant look of lattice decorations. There are so many alternatives, that you should select the one that suits your needs and budget.

Before starting the actual construction of the wooden wood fence, we recommend you to choose the right design and proper plans for your needs. In addition, invest in quality materials such as cedar, pine or redwood, as regular pressure-treated lumber might look a little too dull, although it is the most affordable choice. Choose the most appropriate fence design for your needs, making sure it matches the style of your property.

X-crossed fence

If you have a limited budget or you want to build a rustic fence with countryside feeling to it, we recommend you to pay attention to the above design. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to set the 4×4 post into concrete and to attach the bottom and top rails, as described in the image. Last but not least, attach the X-shaped elements to the fence panels. Make the angle cuts and secure the components into place by using 1 1/4″ screws.

Alternatively, you could still keep the costs under control and get a professional result, if you decide to build a basic fence with pointed picket fencing. Align everything with attention and place the pickets equally-spaced. If you want privacy, you could attach pickets to the other side of the fence too, alternating them.

A variation to the previous designs would be to build a basic concave wood fence. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to lay the panels on a level surface and to mark the cut lines with a carpentry pencil. Afterwards, use a jigsaw or a sabre saw to make the curved cuts. You can adjust the amplitude of the curve according to your tastes. As in the previous cases, you can also attach slats on the opposite side of the fence, in order to protect your property from intrusive eyes.

If you prefer the opposite shape (convex) for the backyard fence, we recommend you to check out the above diagram. Taking into account the techniques required for building the wooden fence are the same as in the previous cases, we recommend you check out the rest of the fence projects that are featured on our site.
