This step by step diy woodworking project is about wood table plans. If you want to build a nice dining table for your patio, we recommend you to pay attention to the detailed diagrams shown in this article. Don’t forget to take a look over the rest of the related furniture articles before starting the actual construction of the table. Adjust the size and the design of the table to suit your needs.

There are few aspects that you need to take into account before building the wooden table. First of all, we recommend you to select the raw materials with great care, making sure the components are perfectly straight and in a good condition. Cedar, redwood or pine are excellent choices as they combine the advantages of a great durability with a very pleasant finish. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building the tabletop

Building the tabletop

The first step of the project is to build the frame of the table. As you can easily notice in the image, we recommend you to cut the 2×4 slats at the right size. Assemble the rectangular frame by drilling pocket holes at both ends of the front and back aprons.

Insert 2 1/2″ screws into the sides of the table and add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to create a rigid structure. Continue the project by attaching the rest of the components between the frame.

Attaching the legs

Attaching the legs

The next step of the project is to attach the legs and the braces to both sides of the wood table. Cut the legs of the table out of 2×4 lumber and attach them to the frame with 2 1/2″ galvanized screws.

Cut both ends of the braces at 36 degrees before locking them to the legs of the table. Use a miter saw to get the job done in a professional manner. Drill pocket holes through the braces and insert the screws into the legs.

Attaching the trims

If you want to enhance the look of the wood dining table, we recommend you to attach 1×4 trims to the bottom of the table. Cut the components at the right size and attach them to the bottom of the legs with finishing nails.

Work with attention and make sure you align the components at both ends before inserting the screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure.

One of the last steps of the project is to attach the tabletop to the frame, as shown in the image. Lay the slats on a level surface, making sure there are no gaps between them.

Top Tip: Attach the wooden frame on top of the slats, making sure it is positioned symmetrically. Drill pocket holes through the supports and insert 2 1/2″ galvanized screws into the slats of the tabletop.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the wood table in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
