Building a dog bed
The first step of the project is to build the front and the back face of the dog bed. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to mark the cut lines on the 3/4″ plywood sheets and to get the job done with a circular saw. Smooth the cut edges with fine-grit sandpaper and remove the residues.
Cut the bottom part of the components in a professional and decorative manner, to get a nice appearance.
The next step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the dog bed. As you can easily notice in the diagram, we recommend you to mark the cut lines on 3/4″ plywood sheets. Make the straight cuts with a circular saw and the curved cuts with a jigsaw.
Cut out the handles on both sides of the pet bed, in order to move it easily. Smooth all the exposed cut edges and remove the residues. Drill pocket holes at both ends and secure them to the perpendicular walls using 1 1/4″ screws.
Build the cleats out of 1×1 lumber and attach them to the interior faces of the structure. Drill pilot holes through the cleats and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the frame of the bed. Add glue to the joints and make sure the cleats are perfectly horizontal. Adjust the height at which you place the cleats to suit your needs.
Build the bottom of the dog bed out of 3/4″ plywood, after taking accurate measurements. Fit the component into place and secure it to the cleats using 1 1/4″ screws. Alternatively, you could drill pocket holes along the edges and insert screws into the frame of the bed.
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look of the woodworking project and to protect the pet bed from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Fit a nice cushion to the bed frame.
