Building a TV stand

Building the frame of the tv stand

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the TV stand. In order to get a professional manner, we recommend you to build the components out of 3/4″ plywood. Mark the cut lines on the plywood sheets and get the job done with a circular saw.

Drill pocket holes along the top and bottom edges of the side components. Make sure the corners are square, leave no gaps between the components and insert 1 1/4″ screws into place.

Fitting the shelf

In order to ad storage space to the project, we recommend you to install a shelf to the structure, as described in the diagram. Cut the shelf out of 3/4″ plywood and smooth the cut edges with sandpaper.

Top Tip: Drill pocket holes along the sides of the shelf and use a spirit level to check if it is horizontal, before securing it to the side using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to joints and make sure the corners are square.

Fitting the legs

Attach 2×2 legs to the bottom of the tv stand. Cut the components at the right size and drill pocket holes. Align the components in a professional manner and secure them to the base using 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to create a rigid structure.

Alternatively, you could fit caster wheels as to move the side table easily. Choose a designs and a size that complements your project in a professional manner.

Fitting the back of the tv stand

In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to get the job done by attaching a piece of 1/4″ plywood to the back of the structure, as described in the diagram. Mark the cut lines on the plywood sheet and make the cuts.

Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper and secure it to the back of the TV stand by using finishing nails or 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess with a damp cloth.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the wooden tv stand in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
