There are many designs and plans to choose from, so make sure you study several alternatives and adjust the appearance to suit your needs.
Invest in high-quality materials, such as pine, cedar or redwood, as to protect the components from decay or weather-damage. Always align the components at both ends and drill pilot holes before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. Check if the corners are right-angled and plumb the legs with a spirit level before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Rustic Table Plans
The first step of the woodworking project is about building the legs of the rustic table. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut them in a decorative manner. Mark the cut lines on the 1×6 legs and get the job done with a circular saw.
Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper and remove the residues with a cleaner. Make sure you make all the four legs in the same manner described above.
Cut the components at the right size and lock them together with galvanized screws. Drill pilot holes through the components before inserting the 1 1/4″ screws, to prevent the wood from splitting.
Top Tip: In addition, we recommend you to check if the corners are right-angled and to add waterproof glue to the joints. Align the components with attention, making sure the edges are flush one with another. You could also install some corner braces (pieces of 1×6 lumber – 5 1/2″ cut on diagonal).
Attach the legs to the four corners of the table frame. Plumb the legs with a spirit level, drill pilot holes and secure them into place with 1 1/4″ galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to get the job done in a professional manner.
Build the tabletop out of 1×6 slats. Drill pocket holes along the edges of the frame and secure them together with 1 1/4″ galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue between the slats in order to create rigid structure.
Center the frame of the table over the tabletop, drill pocket holes through the aprons and insert the screws into the tabletop slats. Add glue to enhance the bond of the components. Leave no gaps between the components. You could also lock the tabletop slats together before attaching them to the frame, by drilling pocket holes along the edges and by inserting 1 1/4″ screws.
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip:Â If you want to enhance the look of the woodworking project and to protect the table from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Place the table in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
