This step by step diy woodworking project is about elevated 8×8 deer stand plans. I have designed this sturdy 2 person shooting house and also added an elevation, so you can have a better view. This deer stand has a gable roof and windows on all sides. Make sure you take a look over the rest of plans to see alternatives and more projects for your garden.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

8×8 Deer Blind Plans
The first step of the project is to cut the posts for the deer stand. Use 6×6 lumber for these posts, that you need to set 24″ in the ground. After laying out the location of the posts, you need to dig 2′ holes and set the posts into place. Plumb the posts with a spirit level and then use temporarily braces to lock them into place. Pour concrete to lock the posts into place.
You need to make a cut out to the top of the middle posts, to accommodate the joist. Use a circular saw and a chisel to make the cutout, as shown in the diagram. Smooth the cutout with sandpaper.
The next step of the project is to build the floor frame for the 8×8 hunting house. Use 2×6 lumber for the joists and cut them as shown in the plans. Lay the joists on a level floor and place them every 16″ on center. Drill pilot holes through the perimeter joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the joists. Make sure the edges are flush and check if the corners are right angled.
Fit the floor frame to the posts, as shown in the diagram. Use a spirit level to make sure the frame is horizontal. Drill pilot holes and insert 5 1/2″ lag screws to lock the frame to the posts.
Next, you need to attach the 2×6 braces to the base of the posts. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly. Make sure the posts are perfectly plumb.
Continue the project by attaching the 2×4 diagonal braces to the posts. Use 3 1/2″ screws to secure the braces to the posts.
Use 3/4″ plywood sheets for the floor of the deer blind. Align the edges with attention and leave no gaps between the components. Use 1 5/8″ screws to lock the sheets to the joists, every 8″.
Build the side walls from 2×4 lumber. Cut the components at the right dimensions. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the studs. You can adjust the size of the windows to suit your needs.
Build the back wall from 2×4 lumber. As you can see in the diagram, you need to frame the door opening in the right side.
Build the front wall of the elevated deer stand. Assemble everything with attention. Make sure the corners are square and leave no gaps between the components.
Fit the side, front and back walls to the floor. Drill pilot holes through the bottom plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the floor. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges before locking the walls together. Secure the adjacent studs together. Drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws. Cut out the plate that falls at the base of the door opening.
This 2 person deer blind is super easy to build and it looks very nice. You can build a platform and build the shooting house elevated from the ground.
You can definitely build this elevated deer stand using common tools and materials. Make sure you know the basic woodworking skills before starting the project, or ask a skilled friend to assist you. You can adjust the dimensions of the deer box, while using the same techniques described in the plans.

Is there a way I could get a PDF of this plan?
Could you set the posts at 39 3/4″, in order to notch the exterior ones to help support the weight of the structure?
