This step by step diy woodworking project is about woodworking bench plans. If you want to learn more about how to build this simple but beautiful bench, we recommend you to read the instructions with attention and to invest in high-quality materials, such as pine, redwood or cedar. Adjust the design and the size of the bench to your needs, but use the same woodworking techniques described in the article.
Work with attention and plan everything from the very beginning, if you want to get the job done in a professional manner and to save both time and money. Take a look over the rest of the bench plans, as there are so many alternatives to choose from. Check if the corners of the frame are right-angled before inserting the screws, in order to create a rigid structure. Cover the components with a few coats of pain, in order to protect the components from decay. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building a wooden bench
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the frame of the wooden bench. Therefore, we recommend you to cut the 2×4 components at the right size and to assemble them together with galvanized screws. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 12″ long components.
Align everything with attention and check if the corners are right-angled, before inserting the 2 1/2″ screws galvanized screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints, if you want to get a rigid structure.
The next step of the project is to build the legs of the bench and to attach them to the frame. Cut both ends of the legs at 75 degrees (15 degree cuts), if you want to get the job done in a professional manner and to enhance the look of the bench.
Top Tip: Align the legs at both ends and lock them into place with 2 1/2″ galvanized screws. Drill pilot holes through the components, in order to prevent the wood from splitting.
Attaching the seat slats to the frame of the bench is a straight-forward process, but there are certain things that you should take into account. Place the 2×4 slats on a level surface, making sure they are equally-spaced.
Center the frame of the bench to the wooden slats and drill pocket holes through the supports. Insert 2 1/2″ screws into the slats and add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to create rigid joints.
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip:Â In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the wooden bench in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
