This step by step diy woodworking project is about shoe bench plans. If you want to learn how to build a nice show bench, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions described in the article. Plan every aspect of the construction from the very beginning, as to save time and money. Invest in high quality materials, such as pine, cedar or redwood, as they are both durable and have a nice finish.

There are several aspects that you should pay attention to when building the shoe bench, such as the woodworking techniques used or the design of the structure. Always adjust the size and the design of the shoe bench to suit your needs, before adjusting the size of the components. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the components before inserting the screws, as to create rigid joints and to hide the head of the screws. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building a shoe bench

Building the legs

Building the legs

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the legs of the shoe bench. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to mark the cut lines with attention and to use a circular saw to get the job done.

Smooth the cut lines with a piece of sandpaper. Make sure you take accurate measurements and the angles are right, otherwise the components won’t fit together easily.

Attaching the top frame

Attaching the top frame

Continue the project by assembling the frame of the seat. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to cut the 1×3 slats at the right size before locking them together. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the components before inserting the 1 1/4″ screws.

Attach the legs to the frame, making sure the corners are right-angled and the legs are plumb. Insert the screws from inside into the legs. Add waterproof glue to enhance the bond.

Building the bottom frame

Building the bottom frame

Building the frame of the shoe bench is a straight forward process, but you need to pay attention to several aspects. Therefore, you need to drill pocket holes at both ends of the components before inserting the 1 1/4″ galvanized screws.

Top Tip: Check if the corners are right-angled and insert 1 1/4″ screws. Plumb the legs with a spirit level and make sure the shelf support is perfectly horizontal.

Attaching the 1×10 slat to the top of the frame is the next step of the woodworking project. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to cut the slat at the right size and to fit it to the frame, as in the image.

Drill pocket holes through the frame of the bench and insert the screws into the seat slat. add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to enhance the bond of the components.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the boot bench in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
