If you want to learn how to build a simple stool, we recommend you to pay attention to the instructions and diagrams featured on this article. In addition, there are many similar projects that you could build in your backyard, so make sure you take a close look over the rest of our woodworking plans.
There are many aspects that you should take into account before starting the construction of your very own step stool. First of all, we recommend you to invest in high quality lumber, such as pine, cedar or redwood. Always take accurate measurements before building the components and align the parts with attention. Pre-drill pilot holes before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building a step stool
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the step stool. As you can easily notice in the plans, we recommend you to cut the components out of 1×15 lumber.
Top Tip: Mark the cut lines on the wooden pieces with a pencil and get the job done with a circular saw. It is essential to take accurate measurements and to smooth the cut edges with 120-grit sandpaper.
The next step of the project is to fit the 1×2 supports between the sides of the step stool. Cut the components at the right size, drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the sides.
Top Tip: Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to enhance the bond of the components. Make sure the corners are right-angled and the supports are perfectly horizontal.
Continue the woodworking project by cutting the 1×8 wooden slats at the right size and by locking them to the frame with screws. Drill pocket holes through the supports and insert the 1 1/4″ galvanized screws into the slats.
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip:Â In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the small table in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
