How to build a simple elevated planter box
The first step of the playset project is to build the frame components. Use 2×6 lumber for the base and 2×4 lumber for the top. Use a miter saw to make 35 degree cuts to both ends of the beams, as shown in the diagram.
Continue the project by attaching the vertical supports. Use a miter saw to make the angle cuts at both ends of the beams. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports, align the edges with attention and then add glue to the joints. Insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly.
Next, you need to assemble the the frame for the playset, by attaching the cross braces, as shown in the free plans. Plumb the side frames with a spirit level and then attach the braces with 2 1/2″ screws. Drill pilot holes at both ends of the
Fit the 2×2 steps to one side of the playset frame. You can adjust the size between the steps to suit your need. Drill pilot holes at both ends of the steps and then insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.
Fit 2×6 boards to the rest of the frame. You need to make a few cuts so you can fit the pieces into place tightly. Attach some climbing holds so your kids can enjoy this side of the playset, as well.
Use 2×8 lumber for the side rails. Use a miter or circular saw to make the angle cuts to both ends of the slats. Smooth the edges with sandpaper and then attach the rails to the frame of the playset. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly. Add glue to the joints and make sure there are no sharp edges.
Use 2×4 lumber for the rails. Cut the components at the right dimensions and then attach them to the playset, as shown in the diagram. Plumb the vertical supports with a spirit level and then drill pilot holes. Insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure the supports into place tightly and then attach the horizontal rails. Drill pilot holes at both ends and then insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly.
Attach the hand rails into place, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes through the top rails and then insert 2 1/2″ screws. As you can see in the plans, you need to leave an opening to one side of the playset, so you can attach a plastic slide.
Install the slide to the playset, as shown in the diagram.
Last, but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain to protect the components from the weather elements and to enhance the look of the project. Install the climbing holds, as well as other accessories.
