This step by step diy project is about 10×16 one horse barn roof plans. This is PART 2 of the project where I show you how to build the barn shed roof, as well as the storage loft section. Make sure you check the local codes and make adjustments to the plans, if required. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a 10×16 barn shed roof
The first step of the project is to build the rafters for the barn shed. Use a miter saw to make 22.5 degrees to both ends of the slats. Smooth the edges with sandpaper for a professional result.
Use 1/2″ plywood for the gussets. Mark the cut lines on the plywood sheets and then get the job done with a circular saw. Fit the gussets over the joints and align the edges with attention. Insert 1 5/8″ screws to lock the gussets into place.
Fit the trusses to the top of the barn shed frame, every 24″ on center. Plumb the trusses with a spirit level and then lock them into place with rafter ties.
Fit the 2×4 supports to the front and to the back of the gambrel shed. Make the angle cuts to the slats and then drill pocket holes at both ends. Insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock the slats into place tightly.
Build the loft joists from 2×4 or 2×6 beams. Make the cuts, as shown in the diagram, using a saw.
Fit the bottom rafters to the trusses, as shown in the diagram. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.
Fit the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the joists and lock them into place with 1 5/8″ screws, every 8″ along the framing.
Fit the T1-11 siding sheets to the gambrel ends of the shed. Mark the cut lines on the sheets and then get the job done with a circular saw. Align the edges, leave no gaps between the sheets and insert 6-8d nails, every 8″ along the framing.
Assemble the overhangs for the shed from 2×4 lumber. Drill pilot holes through the rafters and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the blockings.
Fit the overhangs to the front and to the back of the shed. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.
Cut the 3/4″ plywood sheets at the right dimensions and then fit them to the top of the shed roof. Align the edges with attention and leave no gaps between them. Insert 1 5/8″ screws every 8″ along the rafters.
Cover the roof with tar paper and then install the asphalt shingles. Make sure you also install the appropriate drip edges, so you can seal the shed roof. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for a tight fit.
I have lots of other shed projects on the site so I recommend you to browse through all alternatives before starting the building project. See all my shed projects HERE. Check out PART 1 and PART 3 of the shed project, so you learn how to build the frame of the shed and the double doors.

How does one download plans from this site? You made the perfect shed plans that ive been trying to make all summer.
Please read the FAQs: http://myoutdoorplans.com/faq/
The overhangs should be 2×4 material, not 2×8 material. Correct?
Yes, thanks. Typing mistake.
Also noticed that the roofing material quantities might need to be doubled? Love the site, thanks!
The plywood roofing material I mean.
