10×16 Barn Shed Doors Plans

This step by step diy project is about 10×16 gambrel shed doors and trims plans. This is PART 3 of the barn shed with loft project, where I show you how to build the double doors for the storage shed and how to fit the decorative trims. When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. Building shed doors

front-door-jambs

Fit the 2×4 jambs around the front door opening. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws, every 8″ along the framing.

Side wall jambs

Fit the jambs around the side double doors, as well, using the same techniques described above.

Building-the-doors

Build the door panels from T1-11 siding and the trims from 2×4 lumber. Use 1 5/8 screws to lock the panels to the trims. Add glue to the joints and align the edges flush. The door panels are the pieces you have cut out when installing the sheets to the front wall.

Fitting the side doors

Fit the double doors to the side of the shed. Align the edges with attention and use hinges to lock them to the jambs. Make sure the doors open and close easily and then install the latch.

Fitting the front doors

Repeat the process for the double front doors.

Side wall trims

Fit the 1×4 trims to the sides of the shed. Align the edges with attention and insert 2″ nails to lock the trims into place tightly.

Front and back wall trims

Fit the trims to the front of the shed and back, as well.

Last but not least, you need take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain to the components, so you can protect them from decay and so you can enhance the look of the shelter.
