This step by step diy woodworking project is about a potting bench with sink plans. This is PART 2 of the project where I show you how to build the partitions and the front door for the potting bench. This potting bench has a nice appearance and it is a real work station. Take a look over the rest of our woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a potting bench with sink
First of all, you need to frame the middle partition for the potting bench. Cut the 2×4 supports and then secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.
Fit the 1×4 slats to the sides of the potting bench. Cut the slats at the right dimensions and then secure them into place with 1 1/4″ screws, after drilling pilot holes. Place a piece of 1/4″ plywood between the slats to create even gaps.
Fit the 1×2 cleats to the potting bench. Use 1 1/4″ screws to secure the cleats into place tightly. Attach the 1×6 slats to create the shelf for a professional result.
Fit the steel pegboards to the back of the potting bench, so you can make most of the space. In this manner, you can hang all the hand tools to the pegboard, so you save space and turn the potting bench into a work station. Make cuts to the peg boards so you can secure them into place with screws.
Build the frame of the door from 2×2 lumber. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws, so you can assemble the frame tightly. Use 2×2 lumber for the corners braces. Cut both ends of the braces at 45 degrees and then secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.
Attach 1×4 slats to the door frame. Leave no gaps between the slats and secure them into place with 2″ nails and glue.
Fit the 2×4 supports to the front of the potting bench, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes, align the edges flush and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock the supports into place tightly.
Fit the door to the opening and the leave about 1/8″ on all sides. Fit the hinges to secure the doors into place tightly. Install a door latch so you can lock it into place tightly.
Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain over the components to protect them from decay. Take a look over PART 1 of the project, so you learn how to build the frame of the potting bench.
