This step by step diy project is about free playhouse with porch roof plans. This is PART 2 of the playhouse project, where I show you how to build the roof. Building the roof for the playhouse is a straight forward process, if you use the right materials and techniques. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.

When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a playhouse with roof plans

Building-the-rafters

Building-the-rafters

The first step of the project is to build the rafters for the playhouse. Make the cuts to the 2×2 components after taking accurate measurements. Use a miter saw to make the angle cuts.

Fit the rafters to the top of the playhouse frame. Place the rafters every 24″ on center and then plumb them with a spirit level. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.

After attaching the rafters to the playhouse structure, you should fit the 3/4″ plywood panels to the sides of the playhouse. Cut the panels at the right dimensions and then align the edges flush. Make cuts to the panels so you can create the window openings. Use 6d nails to secure the panels, every 8″ along the framing.

Use 2×2 lumber for the porch supports. Cut the components at the right dimensions and lay them on a level surface. Drill pilot holes through the plates and then insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. You can adjust the size of the opening so it suits your needs. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges flush.
