If you have a patio or a deck and you want to create a cozy place where to drink your coffee or to read the newspaper, we recommend you to take a look over these instructions. In addition, don’t forget to check out the rest of the outdoor furniture plans.
Building an outdoor end table requires quality materials, so we strongly recommend you to use pine, cedar or redwood. In addition, you could build the tabletop from wooden slats or attach a piece of tempered glass. Irrespective of your choice, you need to plumb the legs with a spirit level and to check if the corners are right-angled, before drilling pilot holes and inserting the screws. Building an Outdoor End Table
Top Tip: Building a wooden end table for your patio is a simple project that can be done by any person. If you choose proper plans and have the right tools for the job, you can build the small table in just a few hours.
Outdoor End Table Plans
The first step of the woodworking project is build the frame. As you can notice in the image, you need to use 4×4 lumber for the legs and 2×4 lumber for the rest of the components. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the slats and insert 2 1/2″ galvanized screws into the posts.
Top Tip: Align everything in a professional manner and level the frame with a spirit level. In addition, check if the corners are right-angled before continuing the project.
The next step of the woodworking project is to attach the slats between the side components, in order to create the bottom shelf. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the slats and insert the screws into the frame.
Add waterproof glue between the slats, if you want to create durable joints. Make sure the slats are at the same level with the frame, before inserting the screws. Work on a level surface.
One of the last steps of the project is to attach the glass tabletop to the wooden frame. As you can notice in the image, you need to cut the piece of tempered glass at the right size and place it on the frame.
Top Tip: If you don’t want to create a small rim for the glass, you should sand the edges with fine sandpaper. Alternatively, you could create a conventional wooden tabletop.
Last but not least, you have to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the holes and the cracks with wood filler and let it dry out for several hours, before sanding the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip: Protect the wooden components from rot by applying several coats of paint. Choose colors that match the design of the rest of your property, as to enhance the look of the end table.
