This step by step diy project is about target stand plans. I have designed this target stand so you can build it in just a few hours using 2x4s and 2x6s. You can easily adjust the size of the stand so it suits your needs. If you like practicing your shooting, this project is a must have as it will improve your accuracy. Take a look over the rest of our woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a wood shooting target stand
Build the frame for the target stand from 2×6 lumber. Cut the components at the right dimensions. Align the components so the edges are flush and check if the corners are right-angled. Drill pilot holes through the sides and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the top components. Add waterproof glue to the joints so you enhance the rigidity of the frame.
Attach the 2×4 supports to the bottom of the shooting target stand, as shown in the diagram. Align the edges with attention, making sure the corners are square. Drill pilot holes through the supports and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the frame of the target stand.
Build the base for the target stand from 2×6 lumber. Make decorative cuts to both ends of the components and smooth the edges with sandpaper.
Attach the 2×6 base slats to both sides of the target stand, as shown in the diagram. Center the slats to the frame of the stand, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything tightly. Add waterproof glue to the joints to you enhance the bond of the components.
Continue the project by fitting a 2×4 support to the middle of the frame, in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure. You can adjust the location where you place the support according to the size of your targets.
Â
After assembling the target stand, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Remove the residues with damp cloth and apply a few coats of stain to enhance the look of the stand and to protect the components from the elements.
This is a super simple project anyone should be able to build in a day without much effort. Remember that you need to adjust the size of the components so they suit your particular own needs. Don’t forget to take a look over the rest of my hunting projects.

Hi,
I was wondering why I am unable to print plans off the website. I am not running any ad blockers and pop up blockers are disabled and I don’t have the printer widget showing up on the left side of the screen that the FAQ was talking about, When I print it normally it only prints a solid grey background with text on the top that says “You are not allowed to print preview this page. Thank You”
Any help would be most appreciated. Thank You
The print function is disabled for the moment.
