How to build a wood Christmas tree
The first step of the project is to build the vertical support for the wood Christmas tree. As you can easily notice in the diagram, you need to cut the top of the slat at angle, using a saw.
Next, you need to cut the horizontal slats for the Christmas tree. Use a miter saw to make the angle cuts accurately. Smooth the edges with sandpaper.
Cut a piece of wood at 2″, so you can use it as a spacer. In this manner, you will create even gaps between the slats for a professional result.
Drill pilot holes through the horizontal slats and insert 1 5/8″ screws into the vertical support. Make sure you center the slats to the vertical support for a symmetrical look.
You also need to assemble a base for the wooden tree from 1x4s. Drill pocket holes and insert 1 1/4″ screws to lock the components together. Make sure the corners are square for a professional result.
Drill pilot holes through the base and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the vertical support. Make sure the corners are right angled, if you aim for a professional result.
Fill the holes with wood putty and let them dry out for a few hours. Smooth the surface with 100-200 grit sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth.
Top Tip:Â Apply a few coats of paint or stain to the components, to enhance the look of the project.
