This step by step diy woodworking project is about wall mail organizer plans. The project features instructions for building a basic wall shelf with mail storage and hooks. You can adjust the dimensions of the wall shelf to suit your needs. You can build this project under 10 $, using basic tools and woodworking skills.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a wall mail organizer with hooks
The first step of the project is to build the sides for the mail organizer. Mark the cut lines on the 1×4 slats and get the job done with a saw. Smooth the recess with sandpaper and round the top corner with a jigsaw.
Next, join the two vertical sides of the mail organizer, by fitting the back slats. Cut the components at the right dimensions. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 10″ slats and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the vertical sides. Attach the 1×4 slat to the top of the side supports, as shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints to enhance the bond.
Fit the bottom slat to the mail organizer. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the slat and secure it to the sides using 1 1/4″ screws. Align the edges with attention and add glue to the joints for a professional result.
Attach the front slat to the mail organizer. Use glue and 1 1/4″ finishing nails to lock the slat into place.
One of the last steps of the project is to attach the hooks to the front of the mail organizer. You can fit as many hooks as you want, so that it fits your purposes. You can use the hooks to hang your bags, backpacks or other items.
Fill the holes and dents with wood putty and let it dry out for several hours. Use 120-200 grit sandpaper to smooth the surface. Remember that you can adjust the design of the mail organzier to suit your needs. Drill a pilot holes through the top back support slat and insert a 3 1/2″ into the stud.
Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look of the project and to protect the components from decay, we recommend you to apply paint or stain.
