Wooden Side Table Plans

This step by step diy woodworking project is about wooden modern side table plans. The project features instructions for building a small side table that has a simple and modern look. Adjust the dimensions of the components to suit your needs, while using the techniques described in the article. This small table is ideal for a patio, deck or even for a home. The cost of the materials should be less than 15 dollars.

When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to make a modern end table

Building the elements

Building the elements

First of all, you need to build the components for the side table. Cut the components from 2×4 lumber. Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper and drill pocket holes along the top of the legs, as shown in the diagram. Add glue to the joints and make sure the corners are square. Insert 2 1/2″ galvanized screws to lock them together tightly.

Assembling the spacers

Next, you need to build the spacers. You can use 1×4 or 2×4 slats according to your budget and tastes. Cut the components at the right dimensions and drill pocket holes at both ends of the top component. Insert 1 1/4″ screws to lock the components together tightly. Add glue to the joints and make sure the edges are flush.

Fitting the spacing

Attach the spacers to the frame and lock them into place with 2″ brad nails and glue. Check if the edges are flush before inserting the nails.

Fit the rest of the modules in the same manner described above. Add glue to the joints and inset 2″ brad nails. Always align the edges with attention.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-200 grit sandpaper. Use a belt sander for best results. Don’t forget that you can adjust the dimensions of the side table to your needs.

Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look of the project and to protect the wooden bench from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain.
