Folding Stool Plans

Building the side of the stool

Building the side of the stool

The first step of the project is to build the frame of the folding stool. In order to get the job done as a professional, we recommend you to build one side of the stool following the instructions shown in the plans.

Cut the components at the right size out of 1×2 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components before inserting the 1 1/4″ screws into the wooden legs. Add waterproof glue to enhance the rigidity of the structure. Drill pilot holes through the top support and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the legs. Make sure the corners are square.

Building the other side of the stool

Continue the project in the same manner described above, as to build the other side of the folding stool. Follow the instructions described in the plans to get the job done in a professional manner.

Top Tip: Make sure you check if the corners are right-angled before inserting the galvanized screws, by using a carpentry square. Center the supports to the wooden legs before inserting the screws into place.

The next step of the project is to lock the frames of the chair together. It is essential to lean the frames at the right angle before inserting the bolts, otherwise the end result might not look as expected.

After aligning the components at both ends, we recommend you to drill pilot holes through the components and to insert the 2″ bolts on both sides of the frame. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to fit washers on both sides and between the frames.

If you plan everything with attention and use quality materials, the end result will suit your needs and enhance the look of your garden.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: In order to protect the lumber from water damage, we recommend you to cover the components with several coats of paint. Place the folding chair in a proper location and move it whenever necessary. Attach the seat fabric to the top of the stool.
