This step by step diy project is about 12×14 shed roof plans. This is PART 2 of the large garden shed plans, where I show you how to build the gable roof. The shed has an average slope so it can drain the water properly. Make sure you comply with the local codes before starting the project. When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day.

How to build a gable roof for a 10×8 shed
First of all, you need to build the trusses for the shed. Cut the rafters from 2×4 lumber and make the angle cuts, as shown in the diagram. Lay the rafters on a level surface and leave no gaps between them.
Build the middle truss support from 2×4 lumber. Use a circular saw to make the angle cuts to the support and then fit it into place. Attach the 1/2″ plywood gussets over the joints, so you reinforce the rigidity of the trusses. Alternatively, you can use metal gussets. Align the edges flush and insert 1 5/8″ screws, so you lock the gussets into place tightly.
Fit the trusses to the top of the shed and place them every 16″ on center. Plumb the trusses with a spirit level and secure them into place with rafter ties.
Cut the gable end panels from T1-11 siding and then fit them into place. Align the edges flush and insert 6-8d nails, every 8″ along the framing
Fit the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the roof of the shed. Use the pattern shown in the diagram, for a professional result. Align the edges flush and insert 1 5/8″ screws along the rafters, every 8″. Leave no gaps between the sheets for a professional result. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws, so you lock them into place tightly.
Cut the end trims from 2×6 lumber, using a miter saw. Set the saw at the right angle and then get the job done.
Fit the trims to the front and to the back of the shed roof. Use 3 1/2″ screws to lock the trims into place tightly. Cut the side roof trims from 1×6 lumber. Make angle cuts to the rafters and then secure them into place with 2″ brad nails.
Cover the roof of the shed with roofing felt, making sure the strips overlap at least 2″. Secure the tar paper to the plywood sheets with roofing staples. In addition, cut a large piece for the top ridge. Fit the side drip edges over the roofing felt, while the bottom drip edges should be fit under. Read the instructions labeled on the asphalt shingle packs before installing them into place tightly. Start with the bottom left side of the roof and install them all the way to the top.
