Building a coffee table
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the sides of the outdoor coffee table. On order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to cut the legs out of 2×2 lumber and the aprons out of 1×3 lumber.
Cut the components at the right size and smooth the edges. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the aprons and secure them to the legs using 1 1/2″ screws. Add waterproof glue to enhance the rigidity of the structure.
Lock the two sides of the coffee table together by fitting the rest of the components into place. Drill pilot holes at both ends of the components, align them with great care and insert the 1 1/4″ screws. Make sure the corners are square and add waterproof glue to the joints.
In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to attach the 1×4 slats to the top of the table. Drill pilot holes through the aprons, center the slats with great care and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the top slats. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess material with a damp cloth.
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip:Â If you want to enhance the look of the woodworking project and to protect the table from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Place the bench in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
