Building a side table

Building the aprons

Building the aprons

The first step of the woodworking project is about building the aprons for the side table. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to build the aprons out of 1×4 lumber.

Mark the cut lines on the slats and get the job done with a professional jigsaw. Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper and remove the residues with a cleaner. Make sure you take accurate measurements.

The next step of the woodworking project is to attach the supports to the legs of the outdoor side table. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to drill pocket holes at both ends of the aprons.

Attach the aprons to legs and insert the 1 1/4″ galvanized screws, after making sure the corners are right-angled. Add waterproof glue to the joints to enhance the bond of the joints.

In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to fit the 1×4 slats to the top of the table, as well as to the bottom shelf. Drill pilot holes through the slats and insert 1 1/4″ screws.

Place the slats equally-spaced if you want to get a professional result. Smooth the edges with sandpaper and make sure you leave no gaps between the components. Work with attention and with great care.

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look of the woodworking project and to protect the table from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Place the table in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
