When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day.

How to build a 12×30 lean to wood shed roof
Fitting-the-rafters
Fitting-the-rafters
Fit the rafters to the support beams. Place the supports every 48″ on center. Use rafter ties and 1 1/2″ structural screws to secure the rafters into place tightly. Use the rafter ties to secure the rafters to the support beams, at both ends of each rafter and to the middle.
Fitting-the-purlins
Fit the 2×4 purlins to the top of the shed. Place the purlins every 24″ on center. Use 3 1/2″ screws to secure the slats to the rafters, after drilling pilot holes.
Fitting-the-roof-sheets
Next, attach the metal roof sheets to the top of the firewood shed. Align the edges and secure the sheets to the purlins with 1″ roofing screws, or the size recommended for the roofing sheets you get. Install the drip edges around the perimeter of the roof, usually under the roofing sheets.
Order the sheets to size, or use nibblers to cut the metal sheets to fit the location.
Fitting-the-back-slats
Use 1×6 slats for the exterior walls. Place 2″ spacers between the slats, to create even gaps. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws to secure the slats to the posts. For the storage area you can remove the gaps between the boards and install them one next to the other.
Side-wall-slats
Attach the 1×6 slats to the side of the firewood shed. Place the 2″ spacers to create even gaps between the slats. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws to lock the slats into place.
Slats-for-the-opposite-side-wall
For the storage area you can remove the gaps between the boards.
Middle-partition-slats
Fit the wooden boards to the interior of the shed, to create the storage area. You can leave 2″ gaps between the boards or you can just set them one next to the other.
Front-wall-panels
Fit the 1×6 slats to the front of the shed. Leave no gaps between the boards and secure them into place with 1 5/8″ screws. Use two screws for each end of the boards. Drill pilot holes before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting.
12×30-firewood-shed—dimensions
Make sure you check the overall dimensions for the shed before building it, so it fits in your space. As you can see, the overall height is just under 9 ft to the maximum front point.
