This step by step diy project is about diy 8×10 lean to shed roof plans. This is PART 2 of the lean to shed project, where I show you how to build the lean to roof for the 8×10 shelter. When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day.

Building a 8×10 lean to roof
Rafters-for-lean-to
Build the rafters from 2×4 lumber. Mark the cut lines on the slats and get the job done with a circular saw.
Fitting-the-rafters
Fit the rafters to the top of the shelter and place them every 24″ on center. Use rafter ties and 1 1/2″ structural screws to lock the rafters to the top plates.
Side-supports
Now we need to fit the supports to the lean to sides of the shelter. Make the angle cut to the top of the supports. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and then secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.
Side-panels—shed
Cut the panels for the side panels and secure them into place with 6-8d nails. Leave no gaps between the panels for a neat result.
Fitting-the-purlins
Fit the 1×4 purlins to the top of the lean to shed. See the side overhangs (6″). Place the purlins every 16″ on center and then secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.
Fitting-the-side-roof-trims
Fit the 1×6 trims to the sides of the shed. Align the edges flush and insert 2″ nails to lock them to the purlins.
Roof-trims
Fit the 1×6 trims to the front and back of the shelter. Align the edges flush, leave no gaps between the boards and then lock them into place with 2″ nails.
Fitting-the-roofing-sheets
Fit the metal roofing sheets to the top of the shelter.
Door-for-pig-shed
Diagonal-brace
Now, we need to build the door for the pig area. Use 1×4 lumber for the components and cut them as shown in the diagram. Use a miter saw to make the angle cuts. Fit the components together tightly and insert 1 1/4″ screws to lock everything together tightly.
Door-jambs
Fit the 2×4 jambs around the openings. Align the edges flush, drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.
Fitting-the-front-door
Fit the door to the pig area. Set it to the jambs with hinges and install a latch.
How to build a pig shelter
Pig-shelter—overall-dimensions
Fill the holes with wood putty and let them dry out for a few hours. Smooth the surface with 100-220 grit sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth.
