Building a learning tower
The first step of the learning tower is to build the sides of the learning tower. In order to get a professional result, we recommend you to build the legs and the bottom supports out of 2×2 lumber. In addition, use 1×6 slats to build the rails, making sure you pay attention to the diagram.
Drill pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal components and secure them to the legs using screws. Make sure the corners are right-angled and add glue to enhance the bond of the joints.
Continue the project by locking the sides of the learning tower together. Cut the components out of 1×6 lumber and 2×2 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends and secure them to the legs using screws and waterproof glue.
Check if the corners are square and pay attention to the details described in the diagram. Use a jigsaw to make the curved cuts and smooth the edges using a sandpaper.
In order to get the job done in a professional result, we recommend you to attach the 1×8 slats to the supports. As you can easily notice in the image, you can adjust the height at which you place the bottom slats, by setting them to the 2×2 supports.
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip:Â If you want to enhance the look of the woodworking project and to protect the learning tower from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Place the chair in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
