Building the legs of the bench

Building the legs of the bench

The first step of the woodworking project is to build the legs for the garden bench. Mark the cut lines on the 1×6 slats and get the job done with a circular saw. Smooth the cut edges with sandpaper and remove the residues with a cleaner.

Building the faces of the bench

Continue the garden project by attaching the slats to the wooden legs. Drill pilot holes through the slats and secure them to the legs by using 1 1/4″ screws. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to get a professional result.

Assembling the frame of the bench

The next step of the project is to assemble the frame of the garden bench. Drill pocket holes along the exterior edges of the side legs and secure them to the perpendicular components. Make sure the corners are right-angled.

Installing the supports

Installing the supports

Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 1×6 supports and fit them into place, as described in the diagram. Make sure the supports are equally-spaced and check if the corners are right-angled. Add waterproof glue to the joints in order to enhance the bond of the components.

Fitting the seat slats

One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

Top Tip: If you want to enhance the look of the woodworking project and to protect the table from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Place the bench in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
