Wood Crate Plans
The first step is to build the sides of the wood crate. We recommend you to make the supports out of 2×2 lumber and the sides out of 1×4 slats. Take accurate measurements and cut the components using a proper circular saw.
Make the top of the supports curved by using a jigsaw. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the slats and secure them to the supports using 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess by using a damp cloth.
The next step of the project is to build the frame of the wood crate. Cut the components at the right size and drill pocket holes at both ends. Fit the 1×4 slats to the frame and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the supports.
Place the slats equally-spaced, in order to get the job done in a professional manner. Leave no gaps between the components so make sure you insert the screws in a professional manner.
Build the bottom of the crate out of 3/4″ plywood, by following the pattern described in the diagram. Make the small notches to the corners of the wood crate by using a circular saw. Fit the plywood piece into place, drill pocket holes along the edges and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the side slats.
In order to build the handles for the wood crate, we recommend you to pay attention to the following instructions. Drill 1/2″ holes into the side supports and fit the 1/2″ pieces of round lumber.
Add waterproof glue to the joints and insert finishing nails to create a rigid joint. Smooth the supports with sandpaper and remove the residues using a vacuum cleaner. Make sure you repeat the process on the opposite side of the crate.
One of the last steps of the woodworking project is to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, fill the pilot holes with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-grit sandpaper.
Top Tip:Â If you want to enhance the look of the woodworking project and to protect the table from decay, we recommend you to cover the components with paint or stain. Place the crate in a proper location and move it whenever necessary.
