This step by step diy woodworking project is about 2×4 plant stand plans. I have designed this 3 tier plant stand so you can build it in a few hours using just 2x4s. This plant stand features 3 shelves and a compact size, so you can fit it on the porch on backyard patio. Make sure you take your time before making the cuts, for a professional result. • B – 2 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 8 1/4″ long, 2 pieces – 22″ long, 2 pieces – 32″ long SUPPORTS
• C – 4 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 27″ long, 2 pieces – 30″ long SHELVES
• D – 1 piece of 2×4 lumber – 37″ long BRACE

How to build a plant stand from 2x4s

Building-the-legs-for-plant-stand

The first step of the project is to build the legs from 2×4 lumber. Use a miter saw to make angle cuts to both ends of the 44″ legs. Smooth the cut edges, then lay the legs on a perfectly level surface, against a wall (or a straight surface).

Fitting-the-2×4-shelf-supports

Use 2×4 lumber for the shelf supports. Use a jigsaw to make the round cuts, then smooth the surface with sandpaper. Fit the supports to the leg, as shown in the diagram. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws.

Fitting the shelf slats

After attaching the supports  to both sides, you need to attach the slats into place. Center the slats to the supports and place 1/2″ plywood between the slats. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock the slats to the supports. You can add more slats to make the shelves wider, if you want.

Building the back diagonal brace

Use 2×4 lumber for the diagonal brace. Make the angle cuts to both ends of the brace, as shown in the diagram.

Fitting the brace to the back of the plant stand

Fit the brace to the back of the plant stand, as shown in the diagram. Make sure the corners are square and then align the edges with attention. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly.

How to build a 2×4 Plant Stand Plans

Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches for this 3 tier plant stand. Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain to enhance the look of the plant stand and to protect the components from the elements.
