This step by step diy project is about 12×18 shed roof plans. This is PART 2 of the 12×18 storage shed, where I show you how to build the gable roof. This shed has a sturdy structure, but I strongly recommend you to read and comply with the local building codes. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a gable roof for a 12×18 shed
The first step of the project is to build the 2×4 rafters for the gable shed. Use a miter saw and make 26.6 degree cuts to one or both ends of the beams.
Next, you need to make the angle cuts to the 2×6 bottom rafters. Use a miter saw to make 63.4 degree cuts to both ends of the beams.
Lay the rafters on a level surface. Leave no gaps between the rafters for a professional result.
Fit the 2×4 support to the trusses for more support.
Use 1/2″ plywood gussets and 1 5/8″ screws to lock the trusses together tightly.
Fit the trusses to the top of the shed and then plumb them with a spirit level. Use rafter ties to secure the trusses into place tightly. Place the trusses every 16″ on center, for a professional result.
Cut the T1-11 sheets for the gable ends and then secure them to the supports with 6-8d nails, every 8″ along the framing.
Assemble the overhangs for the front and back of the shed. Drill pilot holes through the rafters and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the blockings.
Fit the overhangs to the front and to the back of the shed. Align the edges flush, drill pilot holes and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.
Fit the 3/4″ plywood sheets to the roof of the shed. Align the edges flush and leave no gaps between the components. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws every 8″ along the rafters to lock the sheets into place tightly.
Fit the 1×6 trims to the sides of the shed roof. Align the edges flush and insert 2″ nails to lock them into place tightly.
Fit the 1×6 trims to the front and to the back of the shed. Use a miter saw to make the angle cut to one end of the trims and then secure them into place with 2″ nails.
This 12×18 shed is easy to build, it has a simple access to the inside and it can store lots of items.
Make sure you check out the rest of the project, so you learn how to frame the 12×18 garden shed and how to build the double doors. In addition, I have lots of other shed projects on the site so I recommend you to browse through all alternatives before starting the building project.
