How to build a tree plant stand

Building-the-side-panels

Building-the-side-panels

The first step of the project is to build the panels for the planter box. Use 3/4″ plywood for the panels and then attach 1×4 trims into place. Place a piece of 1/4″ plywood between the trims to create even gaps and make sure you align the edges at both ends. Use glue and 1 1/4″ brad nails to secure the panels into place tightly.

Use 2×2 lumber for the legs. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the side panels, along the interior. Set the jig for 2 1/2″ screws and then secure the panels to the legs. Add glue and then insert 2 1/2″ screws.

Fitting the bottom cleats

Fitting the bottom cleats

Fit 1×2 cleats to the interior of the planter box. Use 1 5/8″ screws to secure the cleats into place tightly. Drill pilot holes to prevent the wood from splitting.

Bottom slats

Bottom slats

Attach the 1×4 slats to the cleats. Use 1 5/8″ screws to secure the slats into place tightly.

Fitting the top trims

Fitting the top trims

Use 2×2 lumber for the top trims. Use a miter saw to make 45 degree cuts to both ends of the trims. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws. Leave no gaps between the trims for a professional result.

This is a simple woodworking project, so any person with basic diy skills can get the job done in a few hours. Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint/stain over the components to prevent the wood from the elements.
