This step by step diy project is about 4×8 barn shed plans. This is a small shed with a gambrel shed, that you can build in one weekend. This shed has also a decorative purpose, as it will add value to your property and really enhance the look of the garden. Make sure you check the local codes and make adjustments to the plans, if required. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a 4×8 gambrel shed
The first step of the project is build the floor frame. Cut the joists from 2×4 lumber at the right dimensions and lay them on a level surface. Drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws to lock the frame together tightly. Make sure the corners are square and align the edges flush.
Select the location for the shed and remove the vegetation layer. Fit 4×4 skids under the floor frame and use rafter ties to lock them together.
Fit a piece of 3/4″ plywood to the floor frame. Align the edges flush and insert 1 5/8″ screws, every 8″ along the framing.

Building the shed frame
Build the side wall frames from 2×4 lumber. Cut the plates and studs at the right dimensions. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the studs. Place the studs every 16″ on center and make sure the corners are square.
Fit the side wall frames to the floor of the shed. Align the edges with attention and plumb them with a spirit level. Drill pilot holes through the bottom plates and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the floor frame.

Building the shed roof
Continue the project by building the rafters for the shed. Use a miter saw to make 22.5 degree cuts to both ends of the rafters. Once you make the cuts, the rafters will have 67.5 degree ends.
Use 1/2″ plywood for the gussets. Use a circular saw to cut the gussets, as shown in diagram. Lay the rafters on a level surface and leave no gaps between them. Fit the gussets and then insert 1 1/4″ screws to lock them into place tightly.
Fit the trusses to the top of the shed. Place the trusses every 16″ on center, as shown in the diagram. Plumb the trusses and then use rafter ties to lock them into place tightly.
You need to take a look over PART 2 of the shed project, so you learn how to build the door and how to attach the siding to the exterior.
I have lots of other shed projects on the site so I recommend you to browse through all alternatives before starting the building project. See all my shed projects HERE.
