6x8 Greenhouse Door, Vents and Trims Plans

This step by step diy project is about 6×8 greenhouse doors, vents and trims plans. This is PART 2 of the greenhouse project, where I show you how to build the vents, the doors and the trims for the greenhouse. In addition, I show you how to fit the 1×2 trims to the exterior of the greenhouse, so you can lock the greenhouse plastic into place. Alternatively you can use policarbonate sheets and you won’t have to use 1×2 trims, at all. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.

When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. How to build a small greenhouse doors

Door-frame

The first step of the project is to build the door frame for the greenhouse. Use 2×2 lumber for the door components. Lay the components on a level surface and then drill pilot holes through the top and bottom components. Insert 2 1/2″ screws to assemble the door frame tightly together. Make sure the edges are flush and check if the corners are square.

Door trims

Fit greenhouse plastic over the door frame and then secure it into place with 1×2 trims. Fit the trims to the door frame, drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws. Leave no gaps between the components for a professional result.

Vent frame

Continue the project by framing the vents from 2×2 lumber. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the 19″ long components and secure them to the perpendicular components with 2 1/2″ screws. Align the edges flush and make sure the corners are square.

Vent trims

Fit the 1×2 trims to the vents so you lock the greenhouse plastic into place tightly. Drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws to lock the trims to the vents.

Side-wall-trims—greenhouse

Cover the small greenhouse with plastic and stretch it properly. Fit the 1×2 trims to the sides of the greenhouse. Align the edges flush, drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws. You should use screws so you can remove the trims easily when replacing the plastic.

Front wall – trims

Continue the process by attaching the trims to the front of the greenhouse.

Roof trims

Next, fit the 1×2 trims to the roof of the 6×8 gable free standing greenhouse.

Back wall – trims

Last but not least, you should attach the trims to the back wall of the greenhouse. Use screws to secure the trims into place tightly.

Fitting the vents

Next, fit the vents to the greenhouse. Use hinges to secure the vents to the trims and check if they open and close easily.

Fitting the door

Fit the door to the greenhouse and secure it into place with hinges. Moreover, you need to install a latch so you can keep it locked. Fit handles so you can open and close the door properly.

6×8 Greenhouse Plans – Back View

Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and smooth it with sandpaper, for a professional result. Apply a few coats of paint or stain over the components to protect them, while making sure the product is non toxic.
