This step by step diy project is about 6×8 shed roof plans. This is PART 2 of the storage shed project, where I show you how to build the lean to roof for the project. In addition, I show you how to build the door and how to fit the decorative trims. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration. Remember that you need to select the site for the shed with attention and that you have to comply with a few legal regulations.
When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building a 6×8 lean to shed roof
First of all, you need to build the rafters for the lean to shed, using 2×4 lumber. Mark the cut lines on the beams and then get the job done with a circular saw. Smooth the edges with sandpaper.
Fit the rafters to the top of the shed. Place the rafters every 24″ on center and then lock them into place with screws and rafter ties.
Fit 2×4 supports to the sides of the shed. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and then lock them into place with 2 1/2″ screws.
Cut the side exterior walls from T1-11 siding and attach them to the sides, as shown in the diagram. Align the edges flush and insert 6-8d nails, every 8″ along the framing.
Fit 3/4″ plywood sheets to the top of the shed. Leave no gaps between the sheets and insert 1 5/8″ screws, every 8″ along the framing.
Fit 2×6 lumber to the sides of the rood and 1×6 trims to the front and back of the shed. Use 2 1/2″ nails to secure the trims into place tightly.
Cover the roof of the shed with roofing felt, making sure the strips overlap at least 2″. Secure the tar paper to the plywood sheets with roofing staples. Fit the side drip edges over the roofing felt, while the bottom drip edges should be fit under. Read the instructions labeled on the asphalt shingle packs before installing them into place tightly. Start with the bottom left side of the roof and install them all the way to the top.
Fit 2×4 jambs around the door opening. Make sure the edges are flush and insert 2 1/2″ screws, so you can lock the jambs into place tightly.
Build the door panels from T1-11 siding and 2×4 lumber. Align the trims to the door panels and then insert 2″ brad nails through the panel into the trims. Add glue to the joints for a professional result.
Fit the double doors to the opening and then attach hinges to lock them to the jambs. Install a latch to lock the doors and handles so you open and close them.
Fit 1×3 trims to the sides of the shed. Cut the trims at the right size and them make an angle cut to the top. Fit the trims to the sides of the shed, align the edges flush and insert 2″ brad nails, so you can lock them into place tightly. Insert the nails every 8″ along the frame.
Fit the 1×3 trims to the front of the shed. Align the edges flush and use 2″ brad nails to secure them into place tightly.
Fit the 1×3 trims to the back of the shed, as well. Align the edges flush before inserting the brad nails.
Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain over the components, so you can protect them from decay and to enhance the look of the shed.
You need to check out PART 1Â of the project, so you learn how to build the frame of the shed. I have a lot more shed projects on the site, so take a look over the rest of the designs.

Most of the directions and plans are correct. Some material amounts are in error. Screw size for 3/4 materials wrong. Roof plywood should be installed across from the bottom/up. 64 sqcfeet of roofing material, not 100.
You need blocking between the rafters on top of the walls, either that or soffit under the overhangs. Otherwise the shed is open to critters. Also, some guidance on hinging the doors would be appreciated.
Just wondering if you have plans and materials list for the 8×6 lean-to if the door is on the 6ft wall and the roof is leaning up and away from the door? Thanks
