This step by step diy woodworking project is about double wood cooler lid plans. This is PART 2 of the project where I show you how to build the bottom cabinet and how to attach the wood lids to the frame of the cooler. Make sure you take a look over the rest of plans to see alternatives and more projects for your garden.

Work with attention and don’t forget that a good planning will save you from many issues and it will keep the costs withing the total budget. Invest in high quality materials, such as pine, redwood or cedar. Drill pocket holes before inserting the galvanized screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to enhance the rigidity of the structure.

Fit the 1×4 partitions to the bottom part of the wood cooler, as well. Cut the slats at 13 1/2″ and drill pocket holes at both ends. Align the edges with attention and secure them to the legs using 1 1/4″ pocket holes. Add glue to the joints and leave no gaps between the slats.

Continue the project by framing the rest of the bottom cabinet. Leave no gaps between the slats for a neat result.

Build the doors for the cabinet from 1×2 lumber and 1/2″ plywood. Align the trims to the door panels and secure them into place with glue and 1 1/4″ brad nails. Make sure the corners are square for a neat result.

Fit the doors to the bottom of the cabinet and secure them to the legs with hinges. In addition, install knobs so you can open them easily.

Build the trims for the top of the wood cooler from 1×2 lumber. Make 45 degree cuts to the trims that are installed around the contour of the box. Use 1 1/4″ brad nails to secure the trims into place tightly.

Build the lid for the wood cooler. Use 1×3 from the frame of the lid and 1×6 lumber for the top. As you can see in the plans, you need to adjust the width of the top slats so they fit into place easily. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the top slats and secure them to the frame with 1 1/4″ screws. Add glue to the joints so you add more rigidity to the structure.

Build the larger lid for the wood cooler in the same manner described above. Leave no gaps between the components for a neat result.

Fit the lids to the top of the cooler and secure them into place with hinges. Make sure you also attach the polystyrene lid of the cooler to the wooden cooler.

Fill the holes with wood putty and then smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain to enhance the look of the project.

In addition, you need to make a few operations so you can drain the water to one side of the cooler. Don’t forget to add some accessories so you make this a real outdoor bar with cooler. There are so many possibilities you have with this awesome project.
