This step by step diy woodworking project is about flower stand plans. This article features detailed instructions for building a 3 tier plant stand from common materials. I designed this plant stand so that you can build it with basic tools. You can attach caster wheels to the legs, so you can move it easily. When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. • A – 4 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 39 1/4″ long, 2 pieces – 26″ long, 2 pieces – 13″ long LEGS
• B – 6 pieces of 2×4 lumber – 36″ long SUPPORTS
• C – 2 pieces of 1×2 lumber – 45″ long, 2 pieces –  30 1/2″ long, 2 pieces – 16″ long BRACES
• D – 9 pieces of 1×6 lumber – 17″ long TOP

• 4 pieces of 2×2 lumber – 8′

Building a tiered plant stand

Building the legs

The first step of the project is to build the legs for the tiered plant stand. Cut the components at the right dimensions using 2×2 lumber and a saw. Drill the pocket holes at both ends of the horizontal supports, as shown in the diagram.

Align the edges, make sure the corners are right angled and insert 2 1/2″ screws. Add glue to the joints for a professional result.

Fitting the side supports

Next, you need to assemble the flower stand by attaching the side braces. Use 1×2 lumber for the components. Plumb the legs with a spirit level and make sure the braces are horizontal. Drill pilot holes through the braces and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the legs. Make sure the corners are square.

Fitting the top slats

Attach the 1×6 slats to the top of the plant stand. Leave 1/4″ between the slats to make sure the water will drain properly.

Slats around the legs

Make notches to the slats that fit around the legs of the plant stand. Use a saw to make the notches and remove the excess with a chisel. Smooth the notches with sandpaper.

Slats overhang

Center the slats to the plant stand, so that they overhang 3/4″ on both sides. Drill pilot holes through the slats and insert 1 1/4″ screws into the braces.

The plant stand seen from one side has a rustic look. This project is more about functionality and less about the looks.

Flower stand plans

Fill the holes with wood putty and let them dry out for a few hours. Smooth the surface with 100-220 grit sandpaper and remove the residues with a damp cloth.

Top Tip: Apply a few coats of paint or stain to the components, to enhance the look of the project.
