This step by step diy project is about 10×18 raised center aisle barn shed roof plans. This is PART 2 of the free 10×18 raised center aisle shed plans, where I show you how to build the gable roof for the main storage unit, the 10×10 shed. Make sure you check the local codes and make adjustments to the plans, if required. Take a look over the rest of my woodworking plans, if you want to get more building inspiration.

When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building a 10×10 gable shed roof

Fitting-the-top-ridge-beam

The first step of the project is to attach the ridge beam. Use 2×4 lumber for the supports and 2×6 lumber for the ridge beam. Drill pocket holes at both ends of the supports and secure them to the center of the plates, using 2 1/2″ screws. Make sure the corners are square, then attach the top ridge, using 2 1/2″ screws.

Rafters—10×10-shed

The next step of the project is to build the rafters for the gable storage shed. Use a miter saw to make 25 degrees cuts to one end of the rafters. Afterwards, mark the cut lines to the bottom of the rafters, so you can make the birdsmouth cuts.

Fit the trusses to the top of the shed and place the every 16″ on center. Use rafter ties to lock them into place tightly.

Gable end supports

Fit 2×4 supports to back gable ends of the shed. Use the diagram to make the cuts to the supports, drill pocket holes at both ends and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them into place tightly.

Gable end panels

Use T1-11 siding for the front and back wall panels. Use a saw to cut the panels at the right size and dimensions and then align the edges flush. Insert 6-8d nails, every 8″ along the framing. Make sure you don’t leave gaps between the panels, for a professional result.

Roof sheets

Cut the roof sheets at the right dimensions and then fit them to the top of the shed. Align the edges with attention and insert the 1 5/8″ screws, every 8″ along the framing.

Shed toof front trims

Fit the 2×6 trims to the front and to the back of the shed roof. Cut one end of the trims as shown in the diagram. Use 3 1/2″ nails to lock the trims into place tightly. Leave no gaps between the trims for a professional result.

Side roof trims

Fit 1×6 trims to the sides of the shed roof. Align the edges and insert 2″ nails to lock them into place tightly.

Fitting the roofing to the 10×10 shed

Cover the roof with tar paper and then install the asphalt shingles. Make sure you also install the appropriate drip edges, so you can seal the shed roof. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for a tight fit.

This raised center aisle shed is easier to build than you can imagine and it comes with a lot of storage space. The side run in sheds are ideal for storing firewood, hay or other small items that you need to have an easy access to.
