This step by step diy project is about wood stool plans. If you are an amateur when it comes to woodworking or you need a small stool for your yard, then you should pay attention to these instructions. Alternatively, we recommend you to take a look over the rest of the furniture projects, as there are many design ideas that wait to be discovered. Plan everything form the very beginning, in order to prevent mistakes.
It is essential to use quality lumber when building the wood stool, such as pine, redwood or cedar. Take accurate measurements and use a good circular saw to adjust the size of the components. Drill pilot holes trough the components before driving the screws in and reinforce the structure by adding waterproof glue to the joints. Smooth the exposed edges of the stool with a router or with sandpaper. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building a wood stool
Top Tip: Building a small wooden stool is an easy project, even if you don’t have experience in woodworking. Just follow the instructions and adjust the size and the shape of the stool to suit your needs.
How to build a wood stool
The first step of the woodworking project is to build the legs of the stool. As you can notice in the image, you need to build the components from 1×10 lumber. Mark the cut lines on the slat and make the cuts with a circular saw. ‘
If you want to enhance the look of the wood stool, we recommend you to cut out a decorative notch at the base of the legs. Use a good jigsaw to make the cuts. Smooth the edges with sandpaper.
The next step of the project is to build the top of the stool and to attach it into place. Adjust the size of the component at the right size and lock it to the legs by using screws and waterproof glue.
Make sure you plumb the legs of the stool with a spirit level, before inserting the screws into place. The top component should overhang 2″ on both sides of the stool, in order to get a symmetrical appearance.
In order to enhance the rigidity of the structure, we recommend you to install a stretcher between the both sides of the stool. Cut the 1×3 or 2×3 piece of lumber at the right size and lock it to both legs of the stool with screws.
Drill pilot holes through the legs and countersink the head of the screws, before inserting them into the stretcher. Add waterproof glue to the joints, in order to add support to the structure.
Last but not least, you have to finish touches. Insert all the screws at the same level with the wooden surface and smooth the sharp edges with a sand-block. Apply several coats of paint to the components, to prevent them from decay or weather damage.
Top Tip: It is essential to smooth the wooden surface with sandpaper, along the wood grain, before applying the paint over the components.
