When buying the lumber, you should select the planks with great care, making sure they are straight and without any visible flaws (cracks, knots, twists, decay). Investing in cedar or other weather resistant lumber is a good idea, as it will pay off on the long run. Use a spirit level to plumb and align the components, before inserting the galvanized screws, otherwise the project won’t have a symmetrical look. If you have all the materials and tools required for the project, you could get the job done in about a day.

How to build a 10×16 wood shed floor
First, you need to build the floor frame for the wood shed. Drill pilot holes through the joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components. Align the edges flush and check if the corners are square. Place the joists every 16″ on center.
Measure the diagonals and make any necessary adjustments until they are perfectly equal.
Use 4×4 lumber for the skids. It would be a great idea to use pressure treated lumber. Fit the skids under the floor frame. However, you need to use rafter ties and 1 1/2″ structural screws to lock them together tightly. Use 2 rafters for each skid.
Alternatively, you can substitute the skids with concrete blocks. We need either of these
Fit the 2×4 boards to the floor frame. Set 1 3/8″ spacers between the boards to create even gaps. Drill pilot holes through the boards and insert 2 1/2″ screws to secure them into place tightly.
Building the frame of the shed
Use 2×6 lumber for the corner posts. Align the edges flush and add glue to the joints, then clamp them together tightly. Drill pilot holes and insert 2 1/2″ screws to lock them together tightly. Also, it would be a good option to add adhesive to the corner post joints before inserting the screws.
Fit the posts to the floor frame. Plumb the posts with a spirit level, drill pilot holes and insert 3″ lag screws. Make sure you insert at least 2 screws for each post. Notice the middle posts that go to the front and to the back of the shed. We need these extra posts to hold up the top support beams.
Use 2×6 lumber for the support beams. Fit the beams to the front and to the back of the shed. Lock the beam to the posts with L and T ties and 1 1/2″ structural screws. Use a spirit level to make sure the beams are perfectly horizontal.
This wood shed can hold up to 9 cords of firewood. I have put special attention to this shed design, so you can build it on the budget and save tons of money. This shed is very sturdy and it will be extremely durable.
